Oozing history at every corner, Mdina features contrasting styles of architecture representing different eras of Malta’s history – ruins outside the walls of the city date back to the Roman period (around 200 AD) while the Arabs separated Mdina – derived from the word Medina – from Rabat in the ninth century.

Entrance fee to the Metropolitan Cathedral (€10) is not included. Tickets can be purchased in advance to avoid queues upon confirmation of interest to visit these top attractions.

Credit cards are widely accepted but we advise you to bring some cash (appr. €20) if you wish to buy souvenirs and a snack/coffee.

Itinerary

Upon arriving in Mdina, we start our visit at the baroque-style Main Gate, one of the three entrances to the city offering views of the beautifully-restored ditch. Our fully-guided excursion passes through the winding streets of Mdina which resembles a labyrinth, walking past several medieval palaces, museums, churches and houses.

We will stop in St Paul’s square dominated by the Metropolitan Cathedral, dating back to the 17th century (entrance to the Cathedral is optional).

One cannot leave Mdina before heading to the Bastion Square for a panoramic view of the Maltese islands where our certified guide will point out some of the country’s most famous landmarks, including the Mosta Basilica with its massive dome.
